Yu-gi-oh TCG

I loved yu-gi-oh trading card game(TCG) since the start of my primary school where my peers influenced me. It was the most popular card game in class when the tests are over. I liked to savour the enjoyment and excitement of trying out a new deck.
First, I start watching, "Yu-Gi-Oh" the fist anime of the yu-gi-oh series. I could feel the fun of collecting and trying out new card in the anime.
However, I had not received or buy any deck until I was in Secondary school.. I finally saved enough money to afford myself a structure deck. This was due to the fact that my love for yu-gi-oh trading card game(TCG) was quite secretive so no one gifted me any card unlike many of my friends who received their first decks from their relatives. The nest reason is that yu-gi-oh cards are too expensive because of the "Unreasonable" high quality(any change in font, texture or picture quality and many other more is deemed as fake). It cost around 20-30 dollars to buy a yu-gi-oh deck.
Why do I like to play yu-gi-oh trading card game? I asked myself many times. Well, I feel that it is the excitement when playing. You could feel your hand trembling when you pick up the next card, and your heart will skip a beat when your opponent activates a spell of trap card. The best thing of yu-gi-oh trading card game is that the tides of the game may turn with the impact of one card. That the best part. It makes yu-gi-oh trading card game much more interesting as you would only know the winner at the end.
What makes yu-gi-oh trading card game much better than other card games like Duel Master or Pokemon is that there is no such thing like a "best card" or even a "good" card. Duel Master had good card that everyone recognizes like "spiral gate" and "terror pit". However, for yu-gi-oh trading card game, every card is "good" or "bad" depends on other card in your deck. The most typical example is "Foolish Burial". It sends one card from your deck to the graveyard. It may be deemed as a ultra bad card, as you are sacrificing one monster, but in a "graveyard revival" deck, this is almost a "must-have".
I conclude here of all the fun and enjoyment that can be derived from yu-gi-oh trading card game. Why not you be join part of the yu-gi-oh trading card game community now? For a start, you may click here to know more of yu-gi-oh trading card game.

Merchant of Venice

Although many said that the Merchant of Venice, by William Shakespeare, is a comedy, it is still worth to analyze as there are hidden themes such as prejudice, love and mercy laid behind the scenes.
What is the play about? It is about a Merchant, named Antonio, lent his friend Bassanio, 3000 ducats Bassanio is desperately in need of money to court Portia, a wealthy heiress. Antonio does not have the money on him yet, hence he asked a Jewish money lender, Shylock for a loan. Shylock wanted revenge against Antonio, and he demanded that if he did not repay in 3 months he will have his flesh taken... Click here to read more.
The book, although written in the olden English, is still easier to understand compared to other plays of William Shakespeare. I loved the part of the court scene where Portia cleverly turned the court case against Shylock.
However, i also felt pitiful towards Shylock. I felt that he should deserves the right to carry out the bond, as Antonio had not been forced, but willingly agreed to it. Shylock should get what he wanted.

Singapore's national day

SIngapore's National Day is coming on 9th of August. Well what is the meaning behind Singapore's National Day? Singapore celebrated its first Natiornal Day in 1966, one year after Singapore's independence from Malaysia on 9 August 1965. The theme for this year is "Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag". I wondered what do you think of this theme? I find this theme very meaningful. We should work towards our goal and always remember our own country when we realised our dreams. We should never forget how our country's had nurtured us. Let us have a nationalistic national day!

Graffiti in SIngapore

Do feel that graffiti should be allowed in Singapore? Before I answer this question, let be brief you on how the Singapore government treat graffiti. There was a recent arrest and sentencing of the Oliver Fricker, 32, who graffitied an MRT train to 3 strokes of the cane that had come into spotlight in SIngapore. In 1994, Michael Peter Fay was also sentenced to caning in Singapore for theft and vandalism. The above reports showed how strict SIngapore deals towards graffiti. They count street art as vandalism and showed no mercy to bring the offenders to court. But personally, I felt that the punishment of Oliver is too strict. He may be punished, but not till the extent of caning. "This is what I see from where I stand:- Fricker’s act has caused no one physical harm.- Fricker’s act has not damaged anyone’s property. Sure, the MRT was vandalised, but it’s not that hard to clean off, right? Besides, quite a lot of us Singaporeans actually think it makes the MRT look more interesting, a refreshing difference from the boring standard trains.- Fricker’s act has alerted SMRT to the flaws and shortcomings of their security system (or lack of one). SMRT could not have learned this lesson in a way that was cheaper or safer; they could have been learning it from an overpaid security consultant, or from the aftermath of a planted bomb. Now they have the opportunity to bolster up their security and improve their system, all without having to spend money on an expert evaluation and without the loss of civilian lives!" ----------------------------------Quoted from http://kixes.wordpress.com/2010/06/08/how-dare-he-make-the-mrt-look-nicer/ Well, personally, I felt that there should be places set aside especially for street art. We need to let the people living in Singapore appreciate that street art is still an art.

Racial Harmony Day

Racial Harmony Day is celebrated annually on 21 July in Singapore. The event is to commemorate the 1964 Race Riots, which took place on 21 July 1964. It is a day worth to remember. Throughout the world, there had been many riots due the disagreement of different races. It is important to ensure peace and harmony between races. Especially in SIngapore, there are many races living together. The peace and cooperation of different races is important for the progress in SIngapore. I cherished the days in my primary school where one do not feel the differences between races. We treat students in other races equally. However, when we grow older, there tends to be racist remarks circulating around unavoidably. I am really frustrated by this. I felt that the students who passed these remarks are really childish. Personally, i felt that the kids in Singapore are taking racial harmony as granted. I presumed that this is because that had not endured the sufferings during racial disagreement . They must not have realised that the trust built over the years between races could be destroyed in a matter of seconds. We need to preserve the current state of peace and harmony for the good of everybody.

Sprtsmanship

I am really worried about the kids in Singapore nowadays. They seemed to lack sportsmanship in many of the areas. It could be seen most obviously in the ACS- St Andrew’s Secondary School ruby match, where a brawl occurred and many of the students were hurt.

I felt that the greatest reason for this is that the schools are focusing more on winning. Nowadays, schools are selecting kids for CCA through their strength in the sports. Gone are the days where one could choose a CCA for enjoyment and interest. Many schools had even gone to the extent where kids who are really good in sports could enter the school through direct school admission. This show how Singapore is focusing on winning. Winning. That’s the key word here. Winning could improve a school’s placing and attract more good students to that school. No longer do schools see the need of instilling the values of fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. I felt that we really need to buck up in fair play.

Children in the Darkness by Henry M Bechtold

There are children in the darkness Who have not seen the light There are children in the darkness Who someone will teach to fight Chalk and blackboards will not be To this door there is no key From this life they can not flee And these children are not free Could we simply light a candle Could we give them half a chance Could we teach them how to read Could we teach them how to dance Or will a war consume them Their body and their soul Will their life and blood be poured Down some endless thirsty hole Back into the darkness From which there is no flight Back into the darkness Into which there shines no light
by Henry M Bechtold

The author was in Vietnam in 1967 - 68 and again in 1969. The author was sitting in his hotel room in Saigon just before Christmas 2009 and the author was trying to write a poem about the girls who work in the park and how badly men treat them. The author was angry but unable to write anything that did not sound trite or weak. The author looked at the TV and the news was on. The author did not know what the news reader was saying but in the background was a photo of a small boy with a helmet and an automatic rifle. This poem flowed out. The words just came to me and the author typed as fast as the author could to get it all down.

This poem expresses sympathy towards the children who had never even seen the 'light' of their life before becoming child soldiers. They are not offered their freedom and their basic rights such as education and enjoyment. The war would soon make them suffer.

Point of View

The author was a frequent visitor in Vietnam. It is known in Vietnam to have child soldiers. Hence, he started to sympathize them. He is upset about the fact that children are not able to do things that normal children do, and that they were not given any chance for freedom.

Situation and Setting

There is no particular setting, but it is assumed as Vietnam as the author had inspiration and wrote the poem in Vietnam.

There are many child in the world who are become soldiers before they even receive any education. They also suffered as it is hard for a child to stand the vigorous training and living conditions of being a soldier. He potrays war as a very cruel and "dark" place where their freedom is also restricted as many things are not allowed as a solder. There is no time to enjoy their childhood.

Language/Diction

The poet uses different types of words to express this poem. Firstly, he uses repetition to emphasize the situation in the poem. In the 2nd stanza, he talked about" Chalk and blackboards' which meant education. He highlighted the fact that there is "no key" to the door of freedom. He repeated "Could we" in the third stanza to emphasizes what a normal children would be doing. The poet also uses personification in the fourth stanza. He compared war to a human. This is shown by saying that war "consumes" children, potraying war as evil and cruel. The word "light" used in the poem also refers to hope. They are kept in the "darkness", which refers to the cruelness of war. They are not given any chance, or hope, to live a normal live.

Personal Response

I feel pitiful for the children who were sent to war at such a young age.

I strongly feel that children at such a young age should not be exposed to such cruelty in war. They could not enjoy the fun of their childhood and the rights they deserved. The poem also makes me understand the importance of freedom and we should not take it for granted.

Rainbow death by Hubert Wilson

Rainbow death

The link to the poem can be found here.

This small poem speaks of a modern day ingredient of warfare that has caused appalling death and suffering – not only to its intended victims, the Vietnamese people, but also the service personnel that used or even just came into contact with “Agent Orange”. According to Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to Agent Orange, resulting in 400,000 deaths and disabilities, and 500,000 children born with birth defects. From 1962 to 1971, Agent Orange was by far the most widely used of the so-called "Rainbow Herbicides" employed in the herbicidal warfare program. During the production of Agent Orange (as well as Agents Purple, Pink, and Green) dioxins were produced as a contaminant, which have caused numerous health problems for the millions of people who have been exposed. Agents Blue and White were part of the same program but did not contain dioxins.

This poem deters us from starting a war again by speaking of the cruelty of war

Point of View

The speaker is a veteran who had fought in the Vietnam War.. He was a victim of the toxic agents and poor conditions during wartime. This is a first person's account of his disapproval of the Vietnam War. Situation and Setting This war poem is talking about the Vietnam War and the use of herbicidal warfare.

The poet feels angry about America's use of herbicidal warfare and the agony it has caused. Between 1961 and 1967, the U.S. Air Force sprayed 20 million U.S. gallons of concentrated herbicides over 6 million acres of crops and trees, affecting an estimated 13% of South Vietnam's land. In 1965, 42% of all herbicide was sprayed over food crops. The poet is appalled by the fact that even the main livelihood of the innocent civilians was not spared. Language and Diction "Rainbow Death" is an extremely good title as the 'rainbow' refers to the vivid and attractive colors of the chemical agents.

Tension is created by the punctuation marks used. He used exclamation marks and question marks to emphasize his frustration about the innocent suffering from war. He also used hyphen so there would be a pause so people could think and it also make the sentence that come after it more impactful. He also emphasized the consequences of war by using certain words such as "WILL". The sentences are also short for a fast pace poem for it to be more impactful. Personal Response I was extremely angered by the use of chemical warfare in war. The civilians are in no fault of the starting of war, but the use of chemical warfare mostly hurt the civilians. I sympathize with the civilians. Apart from the solders, the innocent civilians also suffer greatly. People argued that" war is war". However, i felt that America as a civilized should not engage in such a cruel and inhuman action.

Write a news article of what happened in to kill a mockingbird

Tom Robinson' trial Many people gathered to watch Atticus Finch defend a black man, Tom Robinson in the hot Maycomb County Courtroom yesterday. "...That Negroe yonder took advantage of me," claimed Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell. It happened when Mayella Ewell invited Tom into the Ewell yard to do odd jobs for her for no charge. Tom Robinson accepted out of pity for Mayella Ewell Mayella claimed that Tom followed her into the house when she asked him to chop up a chiffarobe. According to Mayella, he struck her in the face and took advantage of her. Tom's story was much different. "She reached up an' kissed me side of th' face. She says she's never kissed a grown man before an' she might have well kissed a Negro. Mayella was the daughter of Bob Ewell, and also a member of the Ewell family. The Ewell family was the outclass of the society with children only going to the first day of school and quitting school soon afterwards. Bob Ewell was a typical drunkard, and hence Mayella had to take care of all the children at home. Tom Robinson has worked on Mr. Link Deas's farm for eight years. "...that boy's worked for me eight years an' I ain't had a speck o' trouble outa him. Not a speck," stated Mr. Deas during the trial. While working on the farm, he had an accident with the cotton gin, leaving his entire left hand completely useless. Atticus made a fine speech by starting the trial by asking for evidence from Mayella Ewell, Bob Ewell and Tom Robinson. Atticus made a good stand by finding out if the people was left handed or right handed. The most outstanding fact was that it was confirmed Mayella's right eye was blackened, proving she had been hit by a left-handed but Tom Robinson had his left-handed rendered useless. However, the final verdict was that Tom Robinson was guilty of raping Mayella Ewell and Tom was sent to jail. After the trial, I had an interview with Atticus, and one of the questions i asked him was why he stood up for Tom Robinson, a black, when there is obvious prejudice against blacks around here. He stated, "Although we had already been beaten hundreds years age, we still had to stand up to the injustice, no matter how obvious it is, at all cost."

Write a diary Of Jem in To kill a mockingbird

Dear dairy, I couldn't take in what had happened this today. I couldn't believe a thing. Before this incident had happened, if anyone had even mentioned that Atticus is "one shot Finch", i would have laughed till i broke down into convulsions. Today, when Atticus was still in his office, scout and i had noticed a mad dog, named Tim Robinson, coming down the road. We immediately informed Calpurnia to call up the authorities, but much to my surprise, she called Atticus. My first impression was, what's the use of Atticus in this situation. It is impossible that he had the skill or even courage to kill a mad dog without getting harmed. Soon, the sheriff and Atticus arrived. I was still half-sniggering and half-worried if Atticus would be bitten by the mad dog. I heaved a sign of relief when the sheriff took out his gun. Atticus would be a by-stander only. However, the next thing the sheriff did send dumbfounded me. He handed the gun to Atticus! What could Atticus do with a gun? I had never seen him using a gun before in my life, unlike other fathers who went out to hunt. But what could Atticus do with a gun? I was momentarily shocked. At that moment, i wondered if Atticus would waste all the ammunition and still would not even hurt the mad dog and be a laughing stock on he street. I waited with bated breath when Atticus lifted the gun and aim. He lifted his spectacles up as it is a hindrance to him but it kept sliding down. He threw it on the ground and fired. All eyes was on Tim Robinson as he led a a bark followed by a gasp. Then, he drooped down on the ground on agony and the event is over. I couldn't absorb what had happened and neither could scout.. She had her eyes bulging, her jaw laying down. We soon regained our composure and questioned Atticus. However, the sheriff, more surprised then us, asked us if Atticus have not tell us that he was the "well known one shot Finch". Afterwards, we spoke to Ms Maudie and she wasn't surprised a bit. In retrospect, i felt that Atticus is the best father. Shooting is one of his strength and he didn't even boast about it. Also, the sheriff handing the gun and the responsibility of maintaining the safety of the village. I take back all my words of calling him "useless". Regards, Jem

Multiple Intelligence test

Multiple Intelligence test, though not really accurate, is still one of the best way to find out what are your strength and weakness in the shortest time possible. There are mainly five areas mainly, Interpersonal, Verbal-linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Intrapersonal, and Musical. Interpersonal This area has to do with interaction with others. In theory, people who have a high interpersonal intelligence communicate effectively and mix easily with others, and may be either leaders or followers. Verbal-linguistic This area has to do with words, spoken or written. People with high verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. Those with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn foreign languages very easily as they have high verbal memory and recall, and an ability to understand and manipulate syntax and structure. Logical-mathematical This area has to do with logic, abstractions, reasoning, and numbers. While it is often assumed that those with this intelligence naturally excel in mathematics, chess, computer programming and other logical or numerical activities, a more accurate definition places emphasis on traditional mathematical ability and more reasoning capabilities, abstract patterns of recognition, scientific thinking and investigation, and the ability to perform complex calculations. It correlates strongly with traditional concepts of "intelligence" or IQ. Intrapersonal This area has to do with introspective and self-reflective capacities. They are skillful at deciphering their own feelings and motivations. This refers to having a deep understanding of the self; what are your strengths/ weaknesses, what makes you unique, can you predict your own reactions/ emotions. Musical This area has to do with rhythm, music, and hearing. Those who have a high level of musical-rhythmic intelligence display greater sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music. They normally have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch, and are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music. I had just took a test at http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/questions/choose_lang.cfm My main strength intrapersonal and my main weakness is interpersonal. This tends to be quite accurate as i like to do things by myself and even live alone.(a loner?) i dislike communicating and tried not to speak unless necessary. Furthermore, i like to make friends with quiet people, as it meant that i need not speak a lot. My mother had urged or even forced me to speak but it seemed that her efforts came to a naught as i continued to be conserved and reserved and kept to myself. My next strength is logical. I tends to be fascinated with numbers sine i am young and loves finding patterns in a logical sequence. It is really fun as the enjoyment ad satisfaction of finding the pattern makes me happy for the whole day.

C,C++,C#

C and its varients is a very convenient and addictive language. History of C The initial development of C occurred at AT&T Bell Labs between 1969 and 1973; according to Ritchie, the most creative period occurred in 1972. It was named "C" because many of its features were derived from an earlier language called "B", which according to Ken Thompson was a stripped-down version of the BCPL programming language. History of C++ It was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup starting in 1979 at Bell Labs as an enhancement to the C programming language and originally named "C with Classes". It was renamed C++ in 1983.As one of the most popular programming languages ever created,[3][4] C++ is widely used in the software industry.C++ continues to be used and is one of the preferred programming languages to develop professional applications. The popularity of the language continues to grow C#(pronounced c sharp) In June 2000, Microsoft announced both the .NET platform and a new programming language called C#. C# is a strongly-typed object-oriented language designed to give the optimum blend of simplicity, expressiveness, and performance. C# and .NET are a little symbiotic: some features of C# are there to work well with .NET, and some features. Learning of C++ I had been leaning C++ since i entered Secondary school and i find C and its variance is a very convenient and addictive language. The commands are really short and simple, and i simply loved the computer lessons every week. It was fun and enjoyable, and the satisfaction of coding a programme is beyond describing. I had dreamed of being able to write a programme that is able in reduced my workload in calculating. It may be a basic, but at least i am going forward in the virtual world of programming. I hope that i am able to master the highest levels of programming.

Just another new year

I believe that every new year has a special meaning for each and every one of us. The Chinese new year, which falls on 1/1 of the lunar calendar, means a special meaning to all the Chinese in the world. Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which lasts 15 days! Traditionally( although the holiday is only 2 days.) On the days before the New Year celebration Chinese families are supposed to give their home a thorough cleaning. my family did not have time on the day and hence did not dot he traditional spring cleaning. A reunion dinner is held on New Year's Eve where members of the family, near and far away, get together for the celebration. The venue will usually be in or near the home of the most senior member of the family. The New Year's Eve dinner is very sumptuous and traditionally includes chicken and fish. In some areas, fish is included, but not eaten completely (and the remainder is stored overnight), as the Chinese phrase "may there be surpluses every year" (年年有余; sounds the same as "may there be fish every year.".( although i felt that it doesn't make a difference, i cooperated anyway.) The most desired and savvied day is the first day as it is the time friends and families unite. As my relatives live in mainland china, i couldn't come together with my family.(too sad for me). However, i still gathered with my friends and had a happy reunion. We had the most craved Red envelopes given by my friends' family although i surrendered them to my parents as they make no use to me anyway. The lunch was unbelieving sumptuous. It consists of mouth-watering dumplings, pizza and Japanese cuisine(this is not traditional, but no one cared about it as it is equally accepted in this multi-racial society) Finally, we played poker with our friends(of course non money involved ) but had to go home early 'cause everyone is tired. I wondered how would the next new year be.

Weiqi/Go

What is Go? Go is a board game for two players, noted for being rich in strategic complexity despite its simple rules. The game is played by two players who alternately place black and white stones on the vacant intersections of a grid of 19×19 lines. There are only two simple rules: capturing and ko. Capturing:When a chain of stones is surrounded by opposing stones so that it has no liberties, it is captured and removed from the board. Ko: Players are not allowed to make a move that returns the game to the position before the opponent's last move. This rule prevents unending repetition. See image. Weiqi's history Go is said to originate in ancient China more than 2,500 years ago, and although it is not known exactly when the game was invented, by the 3rd century BC it was already a popular pastime, as indicated by a reference to the game in the Analects of Confucius. The game is most popular in East Asia, but has gained some popularity in other parts of the world in recent years. The most powerful tree "kingdoms" that played weiqi are Japan, Korea and China. I enjoyed Weiqi as it was a simple but tactically hard game which requires complex skills and attention. It is the only game which a computer cannot beat human, as technicians are frantically trying to find a way. I spent about 6 hours a week as i learnt weiqi. Over the years, my skills have improve drastically and i am really proud of myself.

time table

Hi guys, i am back again. Just last week, during my school's assembly, we had a heated discussion of the school's time table. Recently, our school intellectually rearranged our timetable. The older timetable had a period of 40 minutes, with recess taking up a whole period. However, the new timetable had a significant change, with a period of half an hour. The most stand-out advantage the new time table has is that when the less-important periods like music stills occupies a new 2-period, the actual time increase. This can be helpful as our classrooms t the music room can be quite a distance(not a stone's throw away like some of yours) and there may be an insufficient time for lessons when pupils took their own time(much to the displeasure of the teacher) walking to the music room, doubling the time. However, the new time table had a really terrible disadvantage. Usual lessons like science which need practical experiments increase to one and a half. The lesson can really be laggy and boring, causing many to doze off or be half asleep. Hence there was a debate whether we should revert back to the old timetable. Many agreed, but not before our wise principle that mouthed his words of wisdom "Our problems are all man-made and surely could be solved partially. For example, many complain the insufficient time of art lesson. However, why not students just walk faster? Every timetable has its pros and cons, and there is no way that it can fulfil everyone. I believe what is the most important is the cooperation of teachers and students and all problems will be solved. " Soon, there was a never ending applause and everyone stood up to show the new-earned respect to our principle.

Patriotism

"For any nation to survive, its citizens need to develop a sense of identity and belonging with the country. This sense of national identity is often referred to as “nationalism” or “patriotism”. While Governments are often concerned with fostering a sense of national pride amongst its citizens, different groups of people will have different ideas about how patriotism should be expressed, about what is or is not part of the national identity, a debate that rests fundamentally on their view of what the nation represents and how its citizens should engage with it. "

Do Singaporean have patriotism? This is the question i want to discuss in my article today.

First, i would like to ask what define a Singaporean. In Singapore, it is a unique case. The government had emphsised racial equality. Hence, there is such a mix of culture and traditions that there isn’t one definitive style in which a Singaporean follows. The Chinese can celebrate Christian, the Christian can celebrate Chinese new year, etc. Well, maybe this is a distinguished trait of Singaporean.

Another distinguished trait of Singaporean is singlish. The 'ah' and 'la' are suffixes that are a fundamental part of spoken English in Singapore, these suffixes are the ones that make Singaporean English unique and impart a distinct character to it. The use of these words is what defines the very identity of Singaporean English and makes it different from the way English is spoken anywhere else in the world..

Do Singaporean have patriotism? Personally i feel no. Singaporean do have a sense of identity but not patriotism.

Pupils do not feel the surge of pride when singing national anthem, or saying the pledge. Some even make fun of the pledge. When people insult their country, Singaporean felt a sense of indifference.

Well, what do you think?
